So Fables is part of the DCU now?
No. When the news of the Batman vs. Bigby six-issue crossover was announced, several so-called comics news sites reported it that way. But that’s due to the general lack of journalism in those sites. None of them bothered to contact DC or me to find out, before reporting it as fact. Typical.
The true distinction is this: Batman is part of the DCU, owned by that big Time Warner AT&T mega conglomerate. Bigby is part of the Fables fictional universe, owned by me. Via the awesome power of a carefully-negotiated special contract, the two universes are crossing over for a special event.
I hope you’ll consider picking it up.
Will the Batman vs. Bigby series be canon?
Yes and no. Actually, the honest answer is yes and I don’t know. It will be canon for Fables, since I get to decide that. I don’t know if it will be canon in the DCU, since I don’t get to decide that.
When does the B vs B story take place?
In Fables continuity it takes place a year or so following the events of the new 12-issue Fables arc, which (ironically) comes out following the Batman vs. Bigby series.
What happened to Lark’s Killer?
This isn’t an easy question to answer, because of several production and publication problems that still need to be resolved, but which are in the process of being resolved. Partly it was due to low sales, and (I dearly hope) that problem will also be addressed by what we’re going to try.
Will Lark’s Killer ever come back?
Yes — at least I’m fairly confident it will. The things yet to be worked out are doable.
What other new projects do you have coming up?
A boxed set of the four-volume Fables Compendium comes out next year. A sequel to my prose novel Hammer of the Gods. In the same fictional universe I have a sequel to my prose novel The Remarkable Mr. Finn. In the same fictional universe a prose novel called Superteam, and a collection of prose stories called The Complete Beowulf (so far). Yeah, (so far) is part of the title of that book. In comics I have the Batman vs. Bigby series, coming out starting this Tuesday, the new 12-issue Fables series, called The Black Forest, starting about a month or so after the Batman-Bigby thing ends. And one or two things I’m not yet at liberty to discuss.
Will Fables continue after the new story arc?
As of now my enthusiasm for the series is renewed, new story ideas abound, and so I’m willing. Who knows if DC will be? I suspect it will have a lot to do with how well this upcoming Fables arc sells, and what Mark Buckingham’s future schedule is like.
Will there ever be a Fables movie or TV series?
Nobody knows. There have been more than a dozen serious attempts over the past 20 years, but without success. Oh, the stories I could tell (but probably won’t).
Can you give us any updates on the Wolf Among Us 2 game?
I cannot. I’m not part of that deal, nor am I party to the project that sprang from it.
That seems enough questions for now. Let me know below if you have others. Also let me know if you want your name included as the one asking the question.
Thanks.
will everafter still be canonical after fables 151?
So excited for your Fables continuation! I have always wondered, we will ever find out more about Snow and Rose's family lineage (e.g., what happened to Lauda, their father, and the Evil Queen)?
