I’ve always been wary of Twitter, from the first moment I’ve joined, to now, and will continue to be wary in the future.
It has undeniable utility as a place to reach many friends, acquaintances, and readers at once, and let them interact with you. And for the most parts those interactions are mannerly and reasonable.
And it’s a lovely promotional tool.
But Twitter has always been infested with toxic dicks and indignation peddlers, and that ratio of dicks has only increased I recent years, as they’ve realized Twitter’s perfect suitability as a platform for wrecking other people’s lives.
For the most part I’ve been able to stay out of the fecal storm, but only by keeping a relative distance, by keeping most people at a safe remove.
When Twitter was pretty much the only game in town, that seemed the best path to take. But now there are more and better options… for now.
Alternatives are popping up, and some may pass the test of time. I guess we’ll see.
So I’m not leaving Twitter. But yeah, I’ll be dialing it back.
In the meantime, I plan to make use of my own little corner of Substack here, and see how it goes. No, I’m not one of those comic book luminaries who are getting paid to be here. My presence, such as it is, is entirely self financed.
Someday, if I add a paid section to These Foolish Games (if I start publishing original comics and fiction here, for example), I’ll still keep a robust free access section. And the amount and nature of interactions we have here will continue to be largely up to you.
The pitch: Please consider subscribing here. It’s still free. And once you do, feel free to let me know what you’d like to see here.
I already subscribed! I joined Twitter just to follow you but it’s really become something awful.
I'm glad you're not leaving Twitter, but I have noticed the whole you can't interact with that person because I don't like them scenario. It's getting old for sure
